Welcome to First Baptist Church Dartmouth

Welcome to First Baptist Church Dartmouth

 Looking so are we

Jesus talked a lot about seeking.  He was surrounded by people who were looking to find the answers, to experience  love, and to belong.  He loves people who are seeking.

At First Baptist we are also seeking...

  • For answers to life's most important questions

  • To be part of an authentic community where we can safely explore those questions

  • To live lives with significance and meaning

  • To make a difference in the world around us

  • To worship God and care for all of His creation

We haven't made it there yet but we would like to invite you into the journey with us as together we discover the truth of God's love and care for all of His creation.

Urgent Prayer Release for Afghanistan

A voice to be heard”
Urgent Prayer Release for Afghanistan

At the end of May, Noorin TV, a private television station in Afghanistan, broadcast stories of Afghan people who had decided to become followers of Jesus. The video footage included an Afghan baptismal service and showed the faces of number of these Afghans. This video clip, along with inflammatory statements against the Christian faith, has been broadcast repeatedly on different television stations.
By Monday, May 31 it became national news throughout Afghanistan. The subject ignited a heated debate in the Afghan Parliament and Senate who have ordered a formal investigation into the situation.
The Associated Free Press reported that the deputy secretary of the Parliament has called for the execution of Afghan Christians. Speaking in response to the video broadcast, he said, “Those Afghans that appeared on this video film should be executed in public. The house should order the attorney general and the National Department of Security to arrest these Afghans and execute them.”
In addition, the broadcast triggered an angry protest by a few hundred Kabul University students.
Many Afghan followers of Jesus have been frightened by these events and have gone into hiding. Two have gone missing. One has been detained. Afghans inside the country and who have fled the country want the world to know about their situation. In a country where it appears that they have no rights and no voice, they want their voice to be heard.
Ironically, at the same time of this crisis, the Peace Jirga was held in Kabul, where hundreds of Afghan elders met together in Kabul to discuss reconciliation and a peace process. It is quite clear that political parties who lost in the previous elections are using the Afghan believers to discredit the government and divide it.  The timing was not coincidental.  To scapegoat believers in an effort to destabilize the government is immoral.

 Please pray for
•    The security of the Afghan followers of Jesus. Those Afghans whose faces have been repeatedly shown on TV are in serious danger of being arrested or killed by a mob. Some have managed to leave the country. Those who remain are very nervous about this situation.
•    Pray that God will strengthen and encourage the believers and give them wisdom.
•    Pray that God will have his hand on the decisions of the government.
•    Pray that God will turn this situation into something good and profitable for believers inside Afghanistan.
